Abstract [eng] This master's thesis discusses trends in the sport of basketball, individual skills, and the importance of developing these skills among young basketball players. Since basketball involves a variety of individual and team skills performed within the context of competitive gameplay, ideal physical condition and physiology alone are not sufficient to achieve excellence in basketball (Sergej M., 2006). The aim of the study was to examine coaches’ perspectives on the importance of developing individual skills in young basketball players. A total of 8 basketball coaches participated in the study, each with a minimum of three years of experience coaching players aged 5 to 18. The study also sought to explore differences in the individual skill levels of young players who do not engage in additional training, identify which skills are most important for achieving high athletic performance in basketball, and examine how training methods have changed in response to the evolving style of play. Research Aim – To reveal coaches’ perspectives on the value and importance of developing individual skills in the training process of young basketball players. Research Methodology – The study applied unstructured interviews and secondary data analysis. Eight basketball coaches participated in the research. Key Findings and Conclusions – The results showed that the age period of 8-12 years is the most effective for developing individual skills. At this young age, players are more receptive to new information and are able to adapt and learn technical skills more quickly. Compared to the 14-18 age group, where players tend to specialize based on their abilities and focus more on tactical basketball training, younger athletes benefit more from skill-focused development. It was found that players who engage in additional training, such as individual skill sessions or independent practice, are superior to their peers. Moreover, individual skills contribute significantly to the successful execution of tactical basketball tasks.
