Abstract [eng] |
Cartographic Analysis of Space in Works by Jules Verne The goal of the research is to perceive the pecularities of space by Jules Verne works that are published in Lithuanian. Total of 28 works were analysed (25 books and 3 novels). The metodology of analysis of Jules Verne‘s literature space has been developed gradually throughout the research. The database of geographic references was collected in parallel with statistical and spatial analysis of action settings as well as of projected settings/locations. The master thesis provides methodology of statistic analysis, classification, and logical generalisation of spatial data extracted from literature. The results are represented in form of maps, graphs and schemes. It has been proved that the author keeps stable number of geographic references, maintaining strong links to the reality. Jules Verne prefers geographic objects that are characterized by variety of shapes and sizes. The space of Jules Verne pieces covers entire Earth, however, larger number of itineraries, settings and projected spaces indicates major importance of the northern hemisphere, that is also more developed and explored by humanity. The author creates his mental space by combining both natural and anthropogenic objects. There is no continent or geographic zone left without the attention of the writer, the total space of literary works embraces even astronomical objects far away from the Solar System. All the insights are presented in the thesis. Conclusions about reliability and adaptation of the methodology of research for other adventure fiction is presented. |
