Abstract [eng] |
The Master's thesis deals with theoretical and practical issues of provision of social services for old and elderly people with disabilities using the experience of a care institutions. The purpose of the reasearch is to reveal the possibilities of provision of social services to the old and elderly people with disabilities in care at institutions using a semi-structured interview. There were interviewed 12 social workers (7 from Lithuania, 5 from Ukraine). The interpretation of the material collected during the research has made the following conclusions: 1) the direct and targeted provision of services solves social problems; the systemicity of the provision of services is sought; the needs of the recipients of services are met, since the ultimate goal of social services is to return the ability to care of oneself;2) theoretical discourse on the realization of the needs in the context of changing the roles of the old and the elderly in care institutions: economic needs relate to financial / material resources; medical - with the possibility to receive high-quality medical services and to improve the welfare of life; social - with the possibility to communicate with those who meet the needs (social workers, other specialists) and continuously provide effective integrated assistance;3) as a result of of the reasearch, the empirical study reveals the possibilities of provision of social services to old and elderly people with disabilities in care institutions based on employee experience: preference is given to the main residential (constant care) service – accommodation; all the services provided and the functions of the employees are aimed to satisfying the needs of the inhabitants of the care institution, since the clients of these institutions are old, elderly, lost their independence or are partially self-sufficient; social workers keep in touch with their family members in order to better understand the needs of their clients; social work in general is both the main and strong field of activity of the institution because of the lack of specified weaknesses; importantly, the main concern of the institution is that employees of appropriate qualifications and competences would work in a care institution, that they would continuously update their knowledge and develope their skills and would contribute to the improvement of the institution's activities. The situation analyzed confirms that the social policy of both countries - Lithuania and Ukraine - is oriented towards social well-being, and social services for old and elderly people with disabilitie living in care institutions correspond to their economic, medical and social needs in the contexts of the social policy of the countries. |
