This master’s thesis evaluates the determinants of average wages at the Lithuanian municipal level. The aim of the study is to identify the factors influencing average wages and to assess the impact of these factors across Lithuanian municipalities. The period of analysis covers the years 2004–2024. The first part of the thesis, drawing on scientific literature and comparative analysis, examines the factors affecting average wages. Their interrelationships are analysed from a theoretical perspective; the concept of wages is discussed, and the key determinants of wage growth are identified and evaluated. The second part presents a model for assessing the determinants of wages, outlines the methodology of the empirical research, and formulates the research hypotheses. In evaluating the determinants of average wages, an empirical research equation and model are constructed. This model is used to assess the strength of the relationship between average wage growth and the selected variables, while the applied tests and models are discussed. The third part assesses the determinants of average wages at the Lithuanian municipal level based on the results of regression data analysis. The fixed-effects model analysis indicates that regional wage growth in Lithuania is sensitive to both economic cycles and changes in labour mobility; however, in the long run, it remains dependent on productivity and the structural characteristics of the economy. |
