Master thesis discusses the concept of volunteering and the value of volunteering. The categories of volunteering and cost for the organization and the volunteer were identified and analysed. A qualitative study of the benefits and costs of volunteering for the organization and the volunteer and its supplementing quantitative study of volunteering benefits and costs perceived by the volunteers were carried out. Volunteering benefits and costs for the organization and volunteer were discussed and divided into categories and subcategories. The performed study partly confirmed the concept of the value of volunteering presented in scientific works, i.e., it is freely selected activity, which aim is to provide benefit to the public and to each its member individually. The study revealed that a volunteer is a person who seeks benefit, has goals, responsible, inspiring and truly eager to help. He knows what is expected of him, and he brings enormous benefit to the organization. He relates organization's volunteering activity with practical benefit: assistance in improvement, implementation of organization's goals and performance of diffusion. Volunteering value's benefits to the organization directly contributes to the intellectual value creation process, all volunteer organizations attracting individuals and their intelligence create intangible benefit which is hard to evaluate. The analysis of study results suggests that the cost of volunteering value for the organization and the volunteer is higher than the received benefit. It is concluded that aiming to encourage individuals to engage in volunteering, two relatively independent strategies for decrease of cost and increase of benefit are needed. |
