Abstract [eng] The Curonian spit distinguishes itself for its unique landscape. From 2000, the Curonian spit is in UNESCO world heritage list. This place is very popular among tourists. Every year thousands of people come to visit it. Unfortunately, because of many tourists and the deflation process caused by meteorological phenomena, sand dunes in the Curonian spit started to decrease rapidly. It is difficult to map dunes because of fast dynamical changes. Because of storms, the shape of dunes can change extremely even in a short period of time. Scientists agree that it is necessary to continue monitoring the sand dunes surface for more than 10 years to get reliable conclusions of long-term periods. Then it will be possible to distinguish prevailed surface changes trends. The main goal of this master thesis research is to apply cartographical modelling methods in the evaluation of dynamics of the Curonian spit dunes. Expedition data of 2017 March – September and additional cartographical data of the earlier period (topographical map of 1910 and LIDAR data of 2013) were used in this research. Cartographical projection – LKS94. Cartographical modelling methods are based on geographical information systems technologies. The relief of sand dunes is represented by 2D maps, topographic profiles, maps of dynamics, 3D models and the evaluation of the surface volume in different periods of time. “Model builder” was used to automate and document spatial analysis and data management processes. The cartographic modelling was applied to estimate the impact of fencing in surface dynamical changes. Created maps shows the complex information of dynamical changes of the surface, the profile near the fencing area and the meteorological information – wind direction. The results are import to estimate the fencing impact to the surface in the Curonian spit dunes, to estimate dynamical changes trends and to improve the modelling of sand dunes.
