Abstract [eng] Prosecutors and Prosecutor's Office Image Peculiarities Title: Peculiarities of image of prosecurtors and procecutor‘s office Author: Joana Saukaityte Vilnius University, Vilnius, 2018 Number of pages: 52 Objective: to acertain the peculiarities of prosecutors and the prosecutor's office image and the anticipating/predictive factors/characteristics. 200 respondents took part in the first phase: 142 women and 58 men, all ranging between ages of 18 and 65. The analogue of a questionnaire for prosecutors regarding image of judges and courts was used in the research. It was made up of the same statements, but adapted for operations of prosecutors and the prosecutor's office. Some supplementary questions/statements were added to the questionnaire according to comments of 5 experts. Prosecutors’ image questionnaire was made up of 76 questions (63 statements about prosecutors’ image and 13 questions to unfold demographic and other characteristics of respondents). After assessment of prosecutors, 2 statements were removed. Further 9 statements were eliminated after performing their factorial analysis using Varimax . After factorial analysis the questionnaire was comprised of 3 parts. The surroundings image consisted of 12 statements, the services image consisted of 33 statements, the social image consisted of 9 statements. They were representatives of 3 groups: officials (15.9%), convicts (12.5%) and various community members who are not involved in law enforcement or criminal behavior (71.6%). Their age range was between 18 and 82. The same Prosecutors’ image questionnaire was used in the second phase. It was comprised of 67 questions (54 statements about procecutors‘ image and 13 questions regarding demographic and other characteristics of respondents).. In contemplation of answering the research questions in the second phase a factor analysis with Varimax was completed using linear regression and Spearman and Pearson correlation criteria, Student t-test for independent items. Surroundings, services and social imges are statisticly significantly interconnected: a more positive assesment of one of the images relates to a more positive assessment of other images. The image of the surroundings has a statistically significant positive link with age and education, and negatively - with gender and interest in legal subject on television. The more positive is the image of the surroundings, the older is the respondent and has likely only a secondary education. And if evaluation is negative, it is more likely to be a man and a respondent who does not watch television. The image of services has a statistically significant positive link with personal (or close relative‘s) interaction with prosecutors. And it is negatively connected with gender, education and belonging to a group. The more positive image of services is connected with a person or close relatives not having encounters with prosecutors or prosecutor‘s office. A more negative evaluation of services- with male gender, lower education and convicts group. The social image has a statistically significant positive link with personal (or close relative‘s) encounters with prosecutors and negative connection with gender and belonging to a group. The more positive evaluation, the more likely that the respondent and their close relatives did not have encounters with prosecutors. The more negative evaluation, the more likely that the respondent is a man and a convict. Image of prosecutors surroundings can be statistically significantly foreseen only by gender and place of residence. Image of prosecutors services can be statistically significantly forseen by education, legal subjects studying background, personal encounter with prosecutors and belonging to a group. Social prosecutors image can be statistically significantly forseen by gender, education, legal subjects studying background, personal encounters with prosecutors and belonging to a group.
