Abstract [eng] The Semiotics of Disease in Eduardas Cinzas' Novel "Raudonojo arklio vasara" The object of this paper is semiotic analysis of a novel by Eduardas Cinzas "Raudonojo arklio vasara". It is one of a few semiotic analysis of the disease in Lithuanian literature. The aim is to analyse the text from the perspective of disease and to find out the meanings of it from the different points of view. For example, what is the relation between the patient and the disease? Can the patient control the disease, or only his attitude towards it? What does it mean to recover from the disease? The analysis unfolded that the patient in the novel is a subject of passion. He can never recover totally, but he indeed can change his attitude and perspective towards the disease. He can’t control it, but he can divert the disease. The condition to do that is to change his modality and accept the disease as his thematic role as a part of his identity. As an actant he is a subject, and addresser, and as an object of value. The object of value has changed through the narrative of the disease.
