| Abstract [eng] |
This thesis examines the extent to which primary school mathematics teaching materials provide opportunities for developing pupils’ mathematical thinking and reasoning skills. The main focus is on proofand justificationoriented tasks that encourage pupils not only to perform calculations, but also to explain their solution process, justify their answers, verify statements, and ask the question “why?”. The study analyses tasks from the TAIP! mathematics textbooks for Grades 1–4, evaluating their type and depth of reasoning. The results make it possible to assess how consistently the teaching materials create opportunities for developing pupils’ habits of justification and to propose recommendations for supplementing ordinary tasks with prompts that encourage mathematical reasoning. |
