| Abstract [eng] |
The renewed general education history programs are one of the main aspects that are constantly discussed among teachers and other education specialists. Teachers continuously express dissatisfaction with the program guidelines and demand that they be reviewed. The thesis consists of two parts. In the theoretical part, the renewed general education programs are analyzed, with particular attention given to the subject of history, and various scientific sources related to curriculum renewal in the world and in Lithuania are also discussed. In the empirical part, a study is conducted aiming to identify the challenges faced by teachers when working according to the renewed programs and the opportunities that arise for them. The aim of the study is to analyze the theoretical preconditions and practical challenges of implementing the renewed history general education programs in Lithuanian schools, by conducting an analysis of neighboring countries and teachers’ expert reviews. For the study, nine semi-structured interviews were conducted with history teachers with various levels of work experience – from beginners to expert teachers. The collected interview data were analyzed using content analysis. During the study, they expressed their opinions on how they evaluate the renewal of history programs. The study analyzed teachers’ experience in implementing the renewed general education history programs, in order to reveal practical aspects of program implementation and their impact on the educational process. During the study, it became clear that teachers mostly face an overloaded curriculum content, which is difficult to cover on time, challenges in applying problem-based learning, especially in grade 6, the absence of guidelines for historical essay writing, and low-quality textbooks in terms of content. As for the opportunities that opened up after the renewal of the programs, teachers identified 30% free curriculum content and greater attention to the development of competencies. |
