Abstract [eng] Top-level athletes push the limits of human physical capabilities, so the risk of injury is much higher than for the average person (Lemoyne et al., 2017). Depending on the discipline the majority of injuries, approximately 40–70%, occur in the lower extremity (Torvaldsson et al., 2025; Whittaker et al., 2025). This topic remains highly relevant because many studies still do not take women’s sports into account (Whittaker et al., 2025), there is still a lack of high-level preventive strategies (Dhawale et al., 2025), and effective diagnostics are relatively expensive and not always available (Isern-Kebschull et al., 2020). The aim of this study is to summarize the latest literature on lower limb injuries in elite athletes, including their distribution, diagnostics, and effective prevention.
