Abstract [eng] The first section of the thesis is dedicated to describing the main principles of the internet and to highlight the most important elements of the World Wide Web as well as to discuss the electronic information space and the importance and circumstances of its existence. Internet law and main aspects of it are analysed in the second section of this thesis by accentuating the novelty of internet law as a separate area of law, highlighting the fact that internet law is still very much in the early stages of its creation. The main principles of internet law are distinguished, such as: the principle of functional parity, the principle of non-discrimination of electronic form of the documents or the principle of technological neutrality. Substantial part of the second section is dedicated to analysis of the distinction between information society services and electronic communication services as well as to the analysis of the meaning of the term information society service provider. Additionally, the essence of the term intermediary service providers is analysed together with the link between intermediary service providers and information society service providers. The third section of the thesis includes review of the main elements of protection of rights and different means of legal remedies, however the majority of this thesis is dedicated to the analysis of civil liability of different types of information society service providers. Liability of intermediary service providers is assessed by analysing legislation set out in the Electronic commerce directive and by analysing case law of the Supreme Court of Lithuania and rulings of the European Court of Justice.
