The scientific problem being dealt with in the doctoral dissertation seeks to assess what characteristics of the non-formal educational environment stimulate girls’ engagement in recreational physical activities. The aim of the research is to construct the grounded theory explaining how non-formal educational environment stimulates girls’ recreational physical activity. Grounding on the empirical data analysis results, the grounded theory “Significance of the non-formal educational environment to recreational physical activity” was constructed; it facilitated the explanation of importance the non-formal educational environment on girls’ recreational physical activity. The results of the empirical research were analysed by employing the method of the constructivist grounded theory. The coding, conceptualisation (finding of the key phenomenon) and theoretical coding of the data, thick description of the non-formal educational environment provided an opportunity to reveal authentic experiences of senior form girls attending a vocational school in relation to recreational physical activities during non-formal (self-)education. |
