Abstract [eng] |
This master thesis analyzes citizens' trust in local government and participation in local management in case of Siauliai city municipality. In order to reveal the expression of citizens' trust in local government and participation in local management in Siauliai city municipality, identifying the factors of trust in local government and participation in local governance, the analysis of Lithuanian and foreign scientific publications was performed and empirical quantitative research. 2019 February 18 - 2019 March 2 the results of questionnaire survey revealed that Siauliai city residents' trust in local government is quite low, and participation in local government is not active. However, respondents noted that they would like to be more involved in local governance decision-making, but they lack information about the possibilities to participate in public consultations, council meetings or simply making proposals, expressing their opinion. Using non-parametric statistical criteria (Kruscal-Wallis H test), hypotheses have been tested which have proved that trust in local government and participation in local governance depend on sociodemographic characteristics. The results of the survey revealed that middle-age respondents, older respondents, respondents with higher education and respondents with sufficient income are the most involved in local management. Participation in location management is not gender- specific. The majority of Siauliai city self-government institutions are trusted by older respondents. Socio-demographic characteristics such as gender, education and income have no influence on local self-government institutions. In order to reveal the factors of trust in local government and participation in local governance, the Master's thesis analyzes the model of participation in local governance and the model of confidence in local self-government institutions. Multiple linear regression analysis has shown that participation in local governance is influenced by interest in local activity and confidence in local government institutions. Nevertheless the study showed that the greater trust of local self-government institutions, the lower the participation rate in local governance. Respondents interested in local activities, i.e. who need to know about city affairs are more likely to get involved in local governance. This master thesis presents that the assessment of the electoral democracy dimension, the assessment of the dimension of social democracy and the assessment of the dimension of direct democracy have an impact on trust in local self-government institutions. |
