Abstract [eng] The sensations and emotional associations of young people in the process of listening to live music are analysed in this master thesis. The differences between live and recorded music are investigated, goals and objectives of the work are defined and conclusions are presented. The goal of the research is to disclose the effect of music listened during a live performance. In order to implement the research the objectives were raised: to disclose the concept of live music performance and its’ impact on listeners in the context of music dissemination; to analyse the influence of emotional associations upon the process of listening; to compare the impact of live and recorded music on emotional associations of young people; to examine the manifestation of emotional associations, experienced by young people while listening to live music. The hypothesis was formulated: it is likely that live music has a stronger impact on emotional associations of young people in comparison to recorded music. In order to disclose the impact of live music on emotional associations of young people a research was carried out. The strategy of qualitative research and the method of interview were applied. Twelve informants were interviewed: nine girls and three boys. The age of the informants ranges from seventeen to twenty years. The traditional method of content analysis was used to analyse the data obtained. The analysis of research publications confirmed that live music propagates information which manifests via hearing and watching while sounds of live music evolve. Different effects of the sound are displayed when listeners both hear and see a performer and when listeners only hear sound. Combination of sounds and visuals creates a stronger effect than sounds without the visual component, because in case of visual perception, listeners are able to observe a process of producing sound and emotions of the performer. The results of the research revealed that live music performed in real time, when audience can observe the performer, affects listeners stronger than just recorded music. This was evidently shown by affirmations of informants collected and processed with the help of methods of qualitative research. These affirmations confirm that: different styles of live music influence the degree of impact to listeners’ emotions by affecting their inner experiences, reviving memories; sometimes music can console and sooth, sometimes excite to the degree of listeners feeling faster heartbeat and even being moved to tears. Music has a stronger emotional impact when the emotions, conveyed by body language of a performer, can be observed; performer’s musicianship and empathy while performing music determine the strength of the impact on listeners’ emotions. The affirmations of informants processed with the help of methods of qualitative research confirmed the hypothesis: live music undoubtedly has a much stronger impact on emotional associations of young people compared to recorded music.
