Abstract [eng] According to Paul Ricoeur self-understanding is largely predetermined by the texts, signs, symbols that culture sends to the subject. As for the mediation of certain cultural narratives in the process of developing personal (including creative) identity in Anna Akhmatova’s works, this phenomenon is usually called “mirrors” or “duplication”. Portrait as a fragment of cultural space is also a sign of identification in the process of self-discovery. The article describes a kind of “double selfportrait” – Nikolai Gumilev’s oral statement recorded by N. Mandelstam about the identity and similarity of Akhmatova and Gumilev as well as Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning. “Double self-portrait” created by the poet agitated Akhmatova more than four decades. In the process of recognizing herself as a creative person, she returned to it three times: “double self-portrait” was appropriated, interpreted and “re-read” and, finally, was challenged and even rejected.
