The aim of the Master's thesis was to reveal the directionality of school changes in the context of inclusive education. Since there is little research on the changes initiated by schools in pursuit of inclusive education by Lithuanian authors, as well as the research population that was studied in this research, is a small, qualitative research approach using a case study approach was chosen. A theoretical analysis of the scientific literature was conducted. The focus group discussion approach was aimed to reveal the nature and direction of changes taking place at school to achieve inclusive education goals and equal opportunities for learners; to analyse the impact of the changes initiated by the participating educational institutions on school life The research involved four schools undergoing changes in inclusive education, as well as teachers that were brought together by the school principal into a team responsible for the project of change at school and its implementation. Main conclusions: 1. Empirical research data revealed that the schools, by initiating change through purposeful action, seek to adapt school spaces for educational purposes, by organizing a variety of activities and teaching/learning to collaboratively improve communication and collaboration competences, transitioning from teaching to learning paradigms to apply active and unconventional implement a system of self-assessment of pupils' skills and progress. The research revealed that the changes initiated led to changes in school culture and influenced educational practices that are also revealed in all dimensions of inclusive education. The research also revealed that the implementation of innovative ideas and the growing variety of activities not only provide equal opportunities for all members of the community to be and act together in developing and implementing creative ideas, but also change attitudes and create a sense of belonging. A differentiated approach to education is seen as an opportunity for every student to experience learning success. 2. Case studies from four educational institutions provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the manifestation and impact of the changes initiated on school life, revealing different ways and means to achieve the set goal. In the cases analysed, the emphasis was on building a school community based on inclusive values, such as fostering interaction between all members of the school community through partnerships that are based on cooperation. The focus was on strategic planning to achieve the goals set, and leadership decisions which encourage engagement in the change process, as well as promote leadership. The results of the research showed a positive effect on pupil achievement, pupil learning motivation, and the abundance of activities is seen as a favourable medium for leadership. |
