Abstract [eng] Carrying on a Lithuanian education reform, implementing the school as a learning organization development strategy in the information/knowledge society, creating new teaching/learning environments, purpose and functions of the traditional school library are changing. School library’s as an information centre purpose is to help learners to integrate into information society so educators, learners and librarians should make general efforts in developing information skills, information and learning culture. Library and its learning environment have to be attractive to learners, in which the learner and all school community could get not only all information, but also their modern educational requirements should be realized. School library at school organizational structure is one of the most important information supply, learning and information culture forming links by implementing educational innovations. School library modernization measures are implementing by focusing on information/knowledge society and participants (students, teachers, and school administration) of the learning process needs, new learning strategies enable to use library’s information educational potential more efficiently, relating it with essential quality of education, lifelong learning and seeking more effective integration into the whole country's information system changes. School libraries have to become a multi-functional (information, educational, social and cultural) centre.
