Abstract [eng] The present paper strives to generalize the features of the concept ILLNESS found in Lithuanian public discourse. The material for the present research was drawn from Internet website lrytas.lt (access via Internet http://www.lrytas.lt) from the 1st of January, 2011 util the 1st of September, 2011. Several metaphorical models are related to the concept ILLNESS in Lithuanian world-view, thus it is possible to state that undesirable state of organism is characterized in various ways. The characteristics of undefined object, burden, fire, natural power, plant are rarely ascribed to illness. The examples where person's characteristics are ascribed to illness are most common. In Lithuanian world-view, personified illness is mostly perceived as an enemy. ILLNESS IS ENEMY struggles with a person not only by means of strength: this abstract phenomenon has intellectual characteristics as well. It should be noted that for the public discourse as well as language world-view it is mostly common to perceive illness as fight. The significant part of attention is paid to the characteristics of more aggressive participant's fight, i.e. illness, enemy's activities, and the end of fight. The tendency while speaking on the issues of health to perceive the metaphorical models ILLNESS IS FIGHT and ILLNESS IS ENEMY permits to draw a conclusion that a sick person mostly identifies his/her state with the state that is felt when attacked and forced to fight with enemy.
