Abstract [eng] Having taken office in the Faculty of Philology of Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute in 1956 (teaching practice supervision, expressive reading lectures to would-be teachers of the Lithuanian Language and Literature), it was only after 22 years of work that Eglė Prėskienienė decided to move to the Faculty of Pedagogy and teach prospective primary school teachers the Lithuanian language teaching methodology. Such a decision was apparently due to reading textbooks being written by E. Prėskienienė for 2nd / 3rd formers in a 3-year primary school.The article aims to reveal the complexity of compiling the reader (1967–1980) in the context of ideologicallypoliticized public life. To this end, E. Prėskienienė’s personal file in Šiauliai University archives has been studied, primary school curricula of those times have been analysed, as well as relevant articles in the pedagogical-methodological journal “Tarybinė mokykla” (Soviet School) and the “Tarybinis mokytojas” (Soviet Teacher) newspaper have been examined. Focus was given to “Gimtasis žodis” (Native Word), a reader for 3rd formers by V. Ramonaitė and E. Prėskienienė.was given to “Gimtasis žodis” (Native Word), a reader for 3rd formers by V. In the Soviet period, an education reform would occur every 10 years; the given area of public life was associated with the tasks of communism construction, which were newly formulated at the congresses of the CPSU. Guidelines, aims, objectives, and schedules of reforms were unified for all the republics of the Soviet Union. The main aim of the school consisted of educating the young generation in the spirit of proletarian patriotism and internationalism thereby implanting a materialistic worldview.[...].
