Common perception of the world, interpretation of phenomena, the same time plan (the past – the present – the past), moral assessment of decay make "Anykščių šilelis" closer to the poem by Goldsmith; however, the style of poetic language differs. The hypothesis is raised that the poem by Goldsmith could influence Baranauskas, not directly though, but through the translation into Russian by Vasilij Zhukovsky. The style close to classicism rhetoric which is peculiar to the poem by Baranauskas appears exactly in the translation by Zhukovsky. The influence is also supported by a purposeful coincidence of lexis and syntax. |
