Abstract [eng] The imbalance of the muscle strength may be a decisive factor obstructing maintaining of a steady upright body position and resulting from muscle fatigue or structural deformations. A lack of visual information leads to changes in balance, body segment stability, and response to environmental stimuli. The research was intended to assess the impact of visual impairment on the balance of isometric strength of separate muscular groups of an adult. The research involved 38 voluntary subjects: visually impaired subjects (n = 15) and subjects without visual impairment (n = 23). The research was organized at the Faculty of Social Welfare and Disability Studies of Šiauliai University during the period from 1 September 2010 to 1 March 2011. The method of the research was testing. By this method, using the diagnostic device “Back‑Check”, isometric strength balance of separate muscular groups (flexor/ extensor, upper (thoracic part), lateral (left/ right side)) of the surveyed was measured. Conclusions: no statistically significant differences between visual impairment and the balance of isometric strength of separate muscular groups were found during the research.
