Abstract [eng] The article discusses empirical research on the labour market determinants affecting foreign direct investment. Over the last decade the topic of labour market factors affecting foreign direct investment has been touched many times in empirical research. It is worth noting, however, that most studies of this kind deal with labour market determinants together with other factors outside the labour market. Theoretical works aimed at the foreign direct investment determinants mostly emphasize labour cost. However, empirical studies do not pay much attention to this factor. One of the reasons why this is so may be labour costs assessment difficulties. Labour cost depends on the average wage (which may be quite different in different economic sectors) as well as on labour market regulation – the recruitment and dismissal rules, the taxation of employers, and soon. There are quite a number of studies on the influence of labour market regulation on foreign direct investment. Various aspects are analyzed – employees’ rights, individual and collective bargaining flexibility, the period of notice of dismissal before the dismissal, severance pay and size, etc. It should be noted that different authors evaluate the regulation and flexibility of the labour market by different parameters or their combinations. Therefore, the results may be difficult to compare or completely opposite results may be obtained. There are studies designed to assess only a single labour market determinant, but in fact they consider quite a lot of labour market indicators – labour costs and various indicators of labour market regulation. Although most of the studies on labour market determinants use macro data, but micro-level studies are also carried out. Some studies analyze only labour market determinants for foreign direct investment and they do not deal with the basic determinants for foreign direct investment. [...].
