Abstract [eng] |
According to a recent acknowledgement, the culture in an organization has a great importance. Organizational culture distinguishes one organization from others by shaping an identity sense of employees and making the organization unique; it unites the organization members in values and activities, creates an atmosphere of community, which protects the members from alienation. The aim of the study is to investigate and defi ne factors that shape organizational culture in a vocational school. The objectives are to discuss the concept of organizational culture and factors forming organizational culture in theoretical aspects; to identify the factors that positively and negatively affect the organizational culture of a vocational school; to develop recommendations to improve the organizational culture of a vocational school. The research was conducted in November–December of 2009. The research established that vocational school culture is positively infl uenced by these factors: staff is proud of their work, their work is interesting and important for them; employees are loyal to the organization; employees’ mistakes are tolerated; confl icts between workers are resolved through negotiations; environment of the organization is evaluated as comfortable, simple, neat and modern. The moralpsychological climate at school is considered to be good and normal; employees are described as supportive; criticism of other workers is uncommon. Vocational school culture is negatively infl uenced by these factors: employees are not proud of working at this school, they do not know the career prospects; poor work stimulation system; staff is rather passive; limited opportunities of self-expression at work; low salary; employees are not always free to express their thoughts and they do not maintain friendly relations in the organization. |
