Abstract [eng] The article analyses the problems of using adaptive behaviour with children living in residential care institutions, as an important condition determining a person‘s positive psychological and social adaptation. Data from the experimental and control groups of teenagers living in residential care institutions is provided. It was ascertained that during the first stage of the research (before the experiment) both groups were similar. In the control group the research data results showed that during the time when the pupils of the experimental group were learning according to the adaptive behaviour educational programme, behaviour did not change significantly, in comparison with the primary data. When discussing changes in how teenagers from the experimental group value themselves, their behaviour and their relationship with their peers, one can see that after the experiment, the interview data has changed. A comparative analysis of the second stage of the research data in the experimental and control group showed significant changes between those two groups.
