Abstract [eng] The system for assessment of civil servants’ official activities is formulated, theoretical and practical researches on civil servants’ official activities are analysed and systematized in the present article. The study of scientific literature proved that the system of the Lithuanian civil service has been basically created, and it is flexible and open to improvement. Flexibility and transparency of legal regulation of civil service might be increased, civil service should be directed more towards seeking the results and increasing the effectiveness in the use of the allocated resources, management of human resources has been modernized, though the systems of civil servants’ induction, pay, assessment of official activities and motivation might be improved. The performed empirical research proved that the system for assessment of civil servants’ official activities is functioning at the offices and institutions of the Republic of Lithuania and its municipalities, administration of Ukmergė District Municipality, Ukmergė Region District Court and Ukmergė Labour Exchange. The assessment of civil servants’ official activities is being done in accordance with the regulations of the Law on Civil Service and other legal acts regulating the assessment of civil servants’ official activities. Though the Law on Civil Service provides for promotion of civil servants for excellent performance of their duties, state and municipal institutions do not have sufficient funds to cover the results of such assessment. In the current situation, the mechanism of assessment of civil servants becomes meaningless, deprived of its essence and does not fully serve its purpose. Assessment of official activities of civil servants is not regulated by legal acts sufficiently clearly and specifically. Therefore, it is not completely objective. [...].
