Abstract [eng] Evaluation of quality of schools in Lithuania is understood and presented as one of the main strategic and underlying initiatives of education, recognized as a factor as well as an essential condition of independent school improvement. Evaluation of quality of a school is also an instrument, which helps the school principle to observe the quality of school education and to make decisions that ensure the improvement of school activity. It is important to stress that evaluation in Lithuanian schools has been analyzed most often in order to get answers to questions concerning suitability and applicability of methodology. There was no practical interest in such areas as what meanings and uses are seen by teachers who participate in evaluation. Therefore, problem questions are raised in the analysis: what is the importance of organization evaluation as an instrument for school improvement? How deep does the school community understand the evaluation as the base and possibility to constantly improve the school activity as well as the process of school education? What sense and possibilities (and why) do teachers see (or not) for own professional improvement by participating in evaluation of quality of school activity? The article reveals the attitude of pedagogues towards evaluation as the base and possibility for constant improvement of the school activity and the process of education, following results of the analysis of attitude of Lithuanian teachers from comprehensive schools. Value of evaluation, defined and recognized by teachers, is presented on levels of organization and individual. Moreover, it is motivated that participant’s individual understanding of use and organization is the most important motivator for those participating in evaluation, it also is the core indicator of the quality of this process, requiring deeper analysis and further empirical research.
