This study was aimed to determine the influence of cleaned sewage from Panevėžys city on the pollution of water in river Nevėžis. Retrospective review of pollution data allowed to assess trends of change of quality of waste cleaning during the last five years, and to compare levels of pollution of Nevėžis before water is collected for treatment and after the treatment. Laboratory studies have shown that Panevėžys city sewage treatment plant does not adversely affect pollution of river Nevėžis. The concentration of pollutants after cleaning appeared not to exceed the Maximum Allowed Concentration, except for the total concentration of nitrogen, but the latter has a tendency to decrease. The current study shows that treatment of Panevėžys sewage water is sufficiently effective. |
