Abstract [eng] The article analyses the possibility of experiencing existential horror in respect to reality. Such an experience is possible when a human being apprehends that reality itself cannot be fully held nor understood and that there always remains a lack of reality cognition. The article presents philosophical arguments of Aristotle, T. Aquinas, Galileo and R. Descartes, which state that reality can be objectively perceived by a human being. This position excludes the possibility to experience existential horror. Other presented arguments of S. Kierkegaard, F. Nietzsche and J.-P. Sartre oppose the possibility to objectively perceive reality and oneself. It is a relativistic view, which states that there is no objective and unquestionable truth. The truths are created by human beings that as such are limited in their capacity for understanding, which means that a human being is never able to objectively or absolutely perceive and define reality and himself. The understanding that reality or oneself cannot be objectively, clearly and absolutely perceived may lead towards the experience of existential horror.
