Abstract [eng] |
Adolescents’ self-esteem is closely linked with satisfaction of a need to adapt to peers. Adolescents of low selfesteem and not high status among the peers tend to be significantly more dependent on the peers. An adolescent’s selfcognition, his striving for self-dependence and independence frequently aggravate his relationship with the parents and peer influence increases. Moreover, the adequacy of an adolescent’s self-esteem and his engagement in physical activities is the main characteristics of human life quality. Research aim: to study self-esteem of adolescents of different engagement in physical activities. Empirical research results showed that adolescents’ physical activity depended on gender and form of realization of certain physical activity. A tendency was noticed that physical activity of female adolescents was by one third lower than that of male adolescents although they were engaged in the same sports activity. Self-esteem of those adolescents who practiced sports in sports schools, sports clubs or on their own was higher than of those who practiced sports during physical education classes only. High self-esteem was characteristic of more than a half of male and female adolescents who practiced sports activities at sports schools. Low self-esteem was characteristic only of a small part of male and female adolescents who practiced sports activities at sports schools. Emphasis on physical activity is important in educational practice because positive correlation between engagement in sports activities and the formation of self-esteem and self-reliance has been identified. The obtained results are important to educators who train adolescents of different engagement in physical activities in formal and informal institutions and develop special educational programs for such adolescents. |
