Abstract [eng] On the 1st of May, 2004, Lithuania and nine other European states became the members of European Union (EU). One of the main purposes of this regional block is reduction of regional differences. To accomplish this purpose, EU created regional policy and its main instruments – structural funds. Lithuania also uses assistance from structural funds. Currently Lithuania gets assistance from structural funds from budgets of 2007–2013, but there are many projects from 2004–2006 EU structural funds budget, which still are not completed. It’s very important to estimate abilities of Lithuanian regions to use structural funds aid and to reduce regional disparities. In conclusion of analysis of use of assistance from structural funds for 2004–2006, it is obvious that more than 1/5 of its budget is allocated to Vilnius region. Kaunas region got twice more means for human resources development than Klaipėda region, but there was equality in allocating means according to other EU structural funds priorities. Šiauliai and Panevėžys regions are one of the leading regions by the number of projects and their possible benefit for reducing regional disparities. Analysis of economical situation of regions of Lithuania allows to make such suggestions: regulating allocation of EU structural funds aid by regions; informing people about structural aid and possibilities for them, especially in the smallest regions; helping to prepare projects, especially for SMEs; redistributing structural funds aid by priorities that are the most important for reducing regional disparities in Lithuania.
