Abstract [eng] Bearing stress occurs when small areas in bearing parts of foundations are exposed to force. Resistance force of a material under bearing stress depends on the size of the area under load, distribution of contact stresses under the footing of a foundation, the ratio between the dimensions of an element and on other factors. The article deals with plane stresses in pliant shallow foundations. Stress rise in foundations of this kind is caused by sudden changes in foundation cross-section, concentrated force and its changing position. Plane stresses have been determined on a unit measuring plate which was centrally and eccentrically exposed to unit force. On boundary and internal discreet points of the plate direct, circumferential, diagonal and unit stresses were calculated. Stresses obtained by calculaton are presented in graphs and tables. Distribution of stresses is complex. Intensity of their concentration zones, their values and shapes depend on the position of force, on the ratio between the dimensions of a foundation. Stress concentration coefficient increases several times compared to solution of strength of materials. Relief of distribution of equivalent stresses enables to determine relative resistance force and to exploit strength of materials in a more[...].
