Abstract [eng] Stanislovas Dagilis was the first who analysed the poem "The Forest of Anykščiai" by Antanas Baranauskas. In 1886 he drafted mimetic outlines of a tradition of interpretation of this poem, attributed by the Lithuanian literary criticism to entire XX century: the poet's only purpose is self-sufficing description of beautiful nature. In this article, the proposed interpretation of the poem opens deeper principles of Baranauskas poetical thinking. The author of the poem creates a model of Lithuanian ideal existence. The main component of this model is the forest, which no longer exists. The Poet studies the forest empirically, and thus establishes that it is the basis of existential harmony, but not the past on which the poet turns his look. In the first part ("natural") of the poem the forest is considered as the source of energy of an existential ideal, and the second ("historical") part proves that this perception of the forest is caused by historical circumstances.
