Abstract [eng] The article analyses the links between the motivation of the tenth form pupils to participate in the physical education (PE) classes and teachers’ ethical abilities at the comprehensive school. Epistemology, methods and organisation of the carried out research are presented. The research is grounded on the theoretical assumptions of pedagogical professionalism, self-development of lifelong physical education, professional identity, and motivation. Motivation of pupils’ participation in the PE classes is being related to the teachers’ ethical abilities. The article presents the most important research results, which demonstrate that the teachers’ ethic abilities influence pupils’ motivation to attend PE classes, help to experience the joy of cognition, solve problems, recognize one’s expectations, and seek them.
