Research problem. Lithuanian cooperative movement is gaining momentum. During 2008-2012, the number of members of the credit unions increased by 52.2 per cent, assets grew 158.7 per cent and loans and deposits increased respectively by 89.7 per cent and 205.6 per cent. However, this rapid expansion of credit unions has negative consequences. It is noted that credit unions are gradually moving away from the classic principles of co-operative activity, the credit risk is increasing, irresponsible lending policies are undertaken, there is “moral hazard” factor, the formation of capital and other problems. This raises the question whether the credit unions will be able to manage all the risks associated with development? Research object: Lithuanian credit unions performance indicators analysis. Research aim: to determine developments of credit unions status in Lithuanian credit market. Research tasks: 1. to define the concept, business principles and regulation of credit unions; 2. to assess the financial condition and operational results of credit unions; 3. to establish a credit unions assets influencing factors. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature, quantitative analysis of the primary data, comparative analysis, standardization of results method, correlation regression analysis and summation method. |
