Abstract [eng] The Master thesis “Property Insurance as a Means to Safeguard Creditor’s Interests“ analysis the concept of the property insurance as a facility to safeguard creditor‘s interests, its problems and peculiarities of regulation in Lithuanian law and practice of insurers. The first part of the work reveals the concept of obligation and ways of ensuring fulfillment of obligations provided in the Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania and their peculiarities for protection of the interests of creditors. Attention is drawn to the fact that the classical means of enforcing obligations do not always help to achieve the best result for the protection of creditors' interests. The second part of the work is devoted to the concept of insurance contract and its features. The essential terms and conditions of the insurance contract, the subject matter and the parties are distinguished, with particular reference to the party assuming the obligation to perform - the insurer, the requirements of the legal acts and its exclusivity. The third part of the thesis deals with the concept of property insurance, its significance for protecting the interests of creditors. Types of property insurance offered by insurance companies operating in Lithuania are described also creditors' claims for property insurance contracts are discussed. In addition, a lot of attention is paid to the problematic aspects of the individual types of property insurance, the obligations of the policyholder and the insurer during the validity period of the property insurance contract and their significance for the protection of the interests of creditors.
